Five Variations within a Sphere – 1947 – The Museum of Modern Art, NY

Five inter-related works by their diagonal suspension wires, based on the subdivision of twelve inches. Given to John Cage by the artist, who hung them in his apartment designed by Mr. Lippold in very austere terms. John Cage reciprocated by dedicating the penultima sonata of his “Sonatas and interludes for Prepared Piano” to Mr. Lippold.

These sculptures are in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York and were recently included in the exhibition titled “Abstract Expressionist, New York”.
